Stop Smoking Pills: Good Or Bad?

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Your resolution to quit smoking is just a pill away—that’s how some of the pill manufacturers advertise their products. The main enemy for the quit smoking researchers is nicotine. How to tame this greatest killer of humanity year after year is a matter of concern for all researchers.

In the recent past, they have developed many wonder drugs, claiming that they have almost made it, but soon many unanswered questions cropped up. Is it really possible to stop smoking by taking recourse to pills? If so, for how long the pill diet has to continue? Nicotine’s chemical reaction on the body is their main target. Having known this, will they succeed to mimic or block nicotine’s destructive powers? Researchers have also found out that certain pills have within them the in-built double-benefit scheme! They help you stop smoking and drop weight! Is it good or bad?

They say that the best friend is the worst enemy. Cigarettes were your best friend. Now suddenly you want to quit smoking. Naturally the worst experiences, call them sufferings, will meet you on the way. But it’s time you cross each hurdle, without losing confidence and without giving up the race. All should be well, in the end!

Now, there is no doubt that enemy number one is nicotine. Strike this enemy so hard that there is no need to strike again. There is perfect agreement amongst the researchers on the subject. A revolutionary medicine is being developed, which when hits the market on a commercial scale, could be in the form of potion or pill. It is called Methoxsalen. This drug is also developed on the scientifically accepted fact that cigarette smoking is an addiction developed by human body’s earnest desire, obsession for nicotine.

Curb the desire, say the scientists who developed this drug; elimination of this craving is possible, the researchers fervently believe! They have great hopes on this new discovery, which they hope, will produce precedent-shattering results!

Are they right this time? Logically speaking, it seems that they are moving on the correct track! It is just like removing thorn by thorn! They are out to develop ways and means to prevent nicotine to reach up to the brain. It is the brain that does the duty of producing happy and enjoyable sensations when you smoke. When the brain stops giving such signals, what will the poor addict do? He is now not interested in lighting another cigarette at all, and at the end of the day he finds that the packet is almost in tact.

He now knows that he has found a way out from the nicotine-influencing zone. Hopefully the final exit will be soon!

Quit Smoking Shot – Have You Heard Of Shots To Stop Smoking?

Friday, August 28th, 2009

The two medicines involved in a new stop smoking shot – the SMARTTM Shot – has been around for about ten years, Scopolamine and Atarax, and are now FDA approved for stop smoking aids.

SMART stands for Scopolamine Medicated Anticholinergic Receptor Treatment, with Scopolamine as a medicine that contains the ingredient of the seasickness patch, while Atarax is an antihistamine like Benadryl.

Together, they block the brain nicotine receptors and ease the physical withdrawal pains of the nicotine by placing one shot in the hip or buttocks, instead of the older shots which consisted of three shots – two behind the ear and one in the buttock – of other more traditional shot methods.

For the next two weeks, medication and the scopolamine patch are used jointly with a success rate of 70 to 80% while patches have a success rate of 20%, which is considered a normal rate of success. The thing to remember is that it can cause side effects, so doctors advise medical examination before allowing the patients to go ahead with the treatment especially if there are medical concerns or medical drugs being taken.

People who recommend the treatment say that the shots prevent withdrawal symptoms by blocking the nicotine receptors. Others say that this happens only when very high doses of atropine are injected. According to one study, about 40% of the people who took this treatment stopped smoking, though some clinics claim a success rate of 80%.

There are some who are quite critical of anti smoking shots. They believe that more work needs to be done before establishing the efficacy of these drugs. The side effects commonly associated with anti-smoking shots are blurred vision, difficulty in urinating, dizziness, dry mouth, confusion, etc. Hallucinations, heart attack, coma, and stroke may be caused by excessive doses of anticholinergic drugs.

This new shot has been developed by Dr. Voelker, who has spent the last ten years studying and fighting smoking, COPD, emphysema, and lung cancer. He has also pioneered early lung cancer detection and treatment, then taught these methods around the country to other doctors.

A director of the Doctor’s hospital pulmonary and critical care department at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, he is board certified in internal medicine, critical care, and pulmonary medicine – while also being listed in medicine’s “Who’s Who”. The shot or injection treatment is certainly not advisable for women who are pregnant, or for individuals who have heart rhythm problems, prostate problems or are taking mood-altering drugs.

It is best to opt for the treatment as a last resort if you have any of these conditions, while needing to find out the rate of success, the reputation and the support offered by clinics that offer stop smoking shots in comparison.

How can I help my friend stop smoking/doing drugs?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

There is a girl in my church who is 15 (I am 18) and she looks up to be a great deal. She recently told me she smokes cigaretes (which she hides from her parents, of course). She has brought this up a few times now. She talks to me like she wants to quit and I encourage her to do so but she has made no progress whatsoever. And now she is getting weed from a guy this week and she wants to move on to heavier drugs. She tells me all of this but then says that I dont care about her or anything.

I’ve never done drugs, I have no experience in dealing with people who do drugs. I heard plenty of information about drugs but I never thought that I would deal with something like this.

So if you could, please offer up suggestions on how I can help her. How to go about talking to an adult, or telling her parents. What else can I say to her. Do I go through her purse why she is not looking and take whatever she has in there? I’m desperate. Thank you in advance.

you can’t help her stop, but you CAN encourage her to stop. Keep encouraging her. Show her an old beaten up leather purse–then tell her that’s what her face will look and feel like if she keeps smoking. Tell her that she won’t look too pretty carrying an oxygen tank around with her later in life. Her brain cells are going to die as a result of the drugs.

I’ve told a few of my friends that I can’t watch a friend slowly kill themself. That is what your friend is doing. She’s slowly killing herself.

If you are taking the drug chentix to stop smoking do you keep smoking ?

I want to take the stop smoking pill but i can’t find a web site with some info on the pill. I want to know side effects and do you still smoke while you take the pill?

I quit 5 weeks ago on chantix. Go to www.chantix.com for the official website. Yes, you continue to smoke while taking this med. You set a quit date, but I quit early. It is a miracle drug, as far as I am concerned. I’ve tried all other stop smoking aids and this is 100 times easier and better.

Most people only experience nausea as a side effect. That’s all I got, and all the people I know either experienced nothing or nausea. It was mild and totally worth it!

Good Luck!

It costs about $100-120 per month if paying cash, but most insurances cover it. Cheaper than cigs! You WILL quit. It blocks the reuptake of nicotine to your brain and fools it into believing it is satisfied. So, even if you smoke, you derive no pleasure from it. It also gives me vivid dreams, but I don’t consider that a side effect because they are awesome.

Anyone had positve success from hypnotism classes such as weight loss or quit smoking, or know anyone who has?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I’ve heard commercials on the radio advertising classes to hypnotize you in order to lose weight or stop smoking, just wondering if anyone has heard or had good results from this.

If you don’t mind my offering a suggestion: Try the book "Instant Self-Hypnosis" by Forbes Robbins Blair. It has completely changed my life. It has helped me lose weight. It has helped me to quit biting my fingernails (something I did for over 30 years). Please read it and decide for yourself. Better yet, try it out…it is an easy read, and it will revolutionize the way you look at self-hypnosis! It did for me. I knew I was going to see results, and that was key, because I wanted it to work…so I set myself up for success. You will too.

Best of success with your search.

What the best ways to stop smoking weed?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Im 21 and ive been smoking weed since 16. in those days i never really smoked good weed. in the last two years, i started smokin kush and its so strong that it makes me too lazy. its gettin in the way of daily routine. i really need to quit this. any tips regarding the withdrawal symptoms would be much appreciated. Thanks

The best way to stop smoking anything is to quit cold turkey. Only if you are serious about it. You can talk a good talk, but can you walk the walk???? You have to change everything you’ve done and who you’ve been hanging out with since you first began smoking. Are you ready to do that? If not, you can hang it up. Won’t work.

You can’t be around the stuff, can’t be around other people who use the stuff. For crying out loud, you have to quit buying it too!!

Get busy with your life! You have too much time on your hands. Change your routine, take up jogging, or working out, or better yet, try adopting someone less fortunate than yourself and spend some of that money you spend on weed in helping them. Not only will you get a wonderful "rush", but you’ll really make someone’s day (or year). And you’ll take your mind off yourself and onto some kid who could use a friend or a new basketball, or an old lady who needs her house painted, or her plumbing fixed. See the tear in someone’s eye who is so grateful they are speechless because they know they can never repay you!!!!
Get on with it!!!!!!

Some side effects may be: tiredness, a GREAT desire to have "just a little" so you feel better……………DON’T. Just hang in there for about 3 days is all. Take lots of showers. It may be like quitting smoking….you will actually STINK as the stuff comes out of your system. So SHOWER, SHOWER, SHOWER. You may be nervous. You will want to think about it. So think about it and move on. You are either a weakling or you are strong. You get to choose.

But since you are more emotionally addicted than physically, you absolutely HAVE to change your routine and your friends.
I quit smoking cig. after 35 years. Cigs are physically addicting. I KNOW what I am talking about!! All this actually works!
Good luck…..pray daily!

How to get rid of bags and etc. caused from smoking .?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I smoke a lot and I know it is bad for me, but the simple fact is I can’t stop now. All my friends and family smoke too. Lately I have been noticing a lot of changes in my face. For instance, my bags under my eyes have been getting darker and i just seem to have lost color in my whole face. I was wondering if there was some way I could naturally help improve my face. Thank you.

not really. it’s bad for you.

Has anybody tried the new stop smoking drug champix ?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

In the information pack given with the tablets it says it is not recommended to smoke whilst taking them but then further down it says to set yourself a date to give up smoking in the second week of taking them. How long are you supposed to take them for and do they work ?

You are suppose to set a date to quit and trust me by that date you will have quit already. It is designed to make the nicotine not give you the high that you normally get so when you smoke it tastes aweful and you won’t want to smoke. I took them and I quit smoking. Yes they work, but you will have to try them for yourself. Every person is not the same.

But good luck and I hope it helps you!
