Is it right for him to make me choose…?

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

My boyfriend and i have been going out for about two months. I love him so much and i would do anything for him, i know this relationship is going to last a long time. ive only known him for a couple months but i feel like ive known him my whole life. The other day he called me and said "we need to talk." naturally i got worried that he might break up with me.
but he decides to ask me a question that has been on his mind for a while. He says "i want you to stop smoking, like, for good, will you do it?"
[ I smoke marijuana for madicinal perposes and recreational perposes, and i dont want any of your cr*p about how bad it is for you, because i have done my research and the good outweighs the bad. mmmkay?]

So ANYWAY, i said yes, that i would stop [keep in mind i do not smoke that often, maybe twice a week] but then i started thinking, do i really want to give this up? because thats a huge part of my life that im just throwing out the window. But i dont think its fair for him to make me choose between the two things that i love most [him and marijuana] of course i would choose him because i love him more…but its like….idk..i feel like if he really does love me more than life itself [like he says he does] why wont he just take me as i am? he came into this relationship knowing that i smoked, did he really intend on changing me this whole time?

I dont know, im just having a hard time seeing through this. So many of my friends are telling me to go my own way and do whats best for me but, i just really dont want to dissapoint him.
im not addicted, its just a big part of my life. Its impossible to get physically addicted to marijuana, if anything, its a physcological addiction. [that means you think you need it but you really dont]

This is a good question, because most people only research such stuff like marijuana for their way of life, but it is also as you explain for medical reason too, the best answer is how much do you really care for him as well for yourself to be strong for this relationship to grow further? Only you can answer this and I hope that you choose what is right. Good luck

Does the stop smoking patches and pills really works?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Have you have any experience? My husband wants to stop smoking but it seems really hard for him and I want to help him.

err pills i dunno, am using patches and they really do help, like they make you almost not want one, control the cravings and that really well and make it so so much easier, i recommend them :) niquitin!

**oh and you can start at step one and after 6 weeks go to step 2 which is less nicotine for 2 weeks then step 3 which is even less for another 2 weeks, so you sort of wean yourself of the patches… but it’s way better than smoking as nicotine isn’t what’s bad for you :) good luck to your husband, no smoking day on wednesday could be a good inspiration :p

What are some great ways to stop smoking?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

I’ve been trying so hard lately and I can’t stop. It’s really annoying me. I tried to throw my pack out. I stopped smoking for two weeks from that, then went back. Then I tried giving the cigarettes away. That didn’t work.

My mom and dad are really worried about me and my friends don’t want me to smoke anymore. I’m trying to make this pack that I have the last pack I will get.

Are there any effective ways to stop smoking?
Thanks a lot guys. I’ll try to get my hands on some gum. That will probably help A LOT.

Most important…. do it for yourself.
There isn’t any trick to it other than the desire to want to quit.
Have a strong support group of friends who encourage you and keep you on the right track.

You might want to keep "lifesavers" candy on you, whenever you have the desire to light one up – suck on a candy.

Good Luck to you!

Do you need help with your asthma questions? (Read this)?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

I have suffered from asthma since I was 11. I am posting this as a way of helping so many of you who are suffering from asthma on here.

There’s a great book called Reversing Asthma by a doctor who suffers from asthma himself. (name is Richard n Firshein)

Also a great website I’ve bought products from in the past www.allergyasthmatech.com.

I’m not trying to push products by the way. I’ve just found that asthma catalog and the book above very helpful to me personally.

These are things that can help you if you have not tried them already.

-Get rid of mold in your home. Keep damp areas like basements and bathrooms as dry as possible. Get a dehumidifier if needed.
-Get rid of pets if you can, or keep them out of the bedroom.
-Get rid of strong cleaning chemicals (especially bleach) use vinegar instead
-Get rid of mouse, rat, and bug poisons. Use natural bug killers if you can.
-Keep house (naturally) clean to keep roaches away. Their poop triggers attacks.
-Get rid of air deodorizers/air fresheners. They have been proven in scientific studies to trigger asthma and allergy symptoms.
-Wash your sheets and blankets in hot water once a week to kill dust mites which trigger attack
-Cover your pillows and mattresses in dust mite zip covers (you can vinyl ones cheap at Wal-mart)
-Get an air purifier for getting rid of mold and dust. Get one with a good HEPA filter. Do NOT get an ozone machine. Those trigger asthma, not help it. Do NOT get an ionizer type air purifier. Those produce ozone as a by product which can aggravate asthma.
-Get rid of new carpeting and replace with hard wood floors if you can afford it.
-Vacuum once a week and wear a dust mask when you clean or vacuum.
- Get tested for food allergies. Stop eating dairy, nuts (especially peanuts) and processed foods for at least a month to see if you improve. Try to eat organic and more vegetables and fruits. Eat lots of garlic which is a natural anti-inflammatory. (you can get supplements.)
-Check your work environment. Are you being exposed to chemicals or allergens or mold there? Is your job making things worse? If so, it might be time to change jobs or get a doctor’s note for your boss.
- Get a second opinion if you feel your current doc is not helping you.
- Get a neti pot for sinus infections (they have worked wonders for me and you can get one cheap at Wal-greens) You poor salt or saline solution into warm water to irrigate your sinuses.
- Get tested for general allergies and get allergy shots if you can afford them. They can be very helpful for some asthmatics. (they’ve helped me)
- Some folks are sensitive to extremely dry air. If you must get a humidifier, get one that’s easy to clean and replace the filters often since they can grow mold themselves
- Get good high filtration filters like Filtrete for your heating and cooling system in your house. Those alone, can make a difference. Remember to replace them regularly.
- Stop smoking, if you smoke. (I know it’s hard but the reason I have asthma is because I was around my mom’s second hand smoke growing up) Don’t smoke around your kids if you can help it.
- Stop drinking. Alcohol is a nervous system depressant. A beer every once in awhile is probably fine but if you’re a heavy drinker, it could be affecting your lungs.
- Learn breathing exercises. Take yoga classes which are great for asthma. Listen to relaxation tapes when you get home from work.
- Wean yourself off of prednizone if you can little by little and gradually get onto an inhaled steroid instead. They have less side effects and get directly into the lungs better. (I’m personally on Asmanex which is a brand new one) Oral steroids have long term side effects. Get off of them if you can and switch to an inhaled steroid.
- Exercise. I know exercise can irritate asthma for some, but build up slowly. Start with walking. It’s one of the best ways to build up your breathing capacity over time.
- Get tested for acid reflux. Have heartburn, or tightness in your chest after you eat? Chronic acid reflux can result from overuse of oral steroids. They make the esophagus weak, and acid comes up more easily. This can eventually, irritate the lungs. Stay away from spicey foods or high acid foods like tomatoes. If you notice tightness in your chest after eating things like icecream or chocolate, those are acid reflux triggers. Stop certain foods for awhile and see if you improve. Stick to a bland diet for at least a month to see if there’s a difference.
- Use your peak flow meter. If you don’t have one, ask your doc for one. It measures your true breathing capacity if you’re not sure how "tight" you are getting.
- Use a scarf in the winter to keep the air going into your lungs warm and moist. Extreme temperature changes can trigger symptoms.
- Close your car windows and use the air in the summer on especially hot days. Ozone triggers asthma.
- Are you an artist? Is your favorite hobby making you sic

You should have your genes tested, because I hate to break it to you, and I know it’s easier to blame others, but you can’t get asthma through smoking. Especially someone elses smoking. It’s a genetic disorder. That means either you have bad genes, or someone passed a bad one along to you. That’s how you got your asthma.
Like I said though, it’s easier to blame it on smoking. Everything else is.

How can I get my friend to stop doing drugs? Please help me?

Friday, September 25th, 2009

My best friend has been hanging out with these people lately, and I guess you could call them "druggies".
And she’s been doing the same things they do. And she’s addicted to smoking cigarettes now.
She says she wants to quit because she knows it’s bad, but at the same time she says she doesn’t wanna quit "having fun" by doing the drugs and smoking and stuff.

What can I do to get her to just stop being stupid?
and it’s also kinda hurting our friendship, because i don’t do this stuff with her, and it kinda pissses me off that she’s doing it to herself.
i would prefer a solution that wouldn’t get her pissssed off at me..

Talk to her parents if possible. Talk with her, when she is sober, and explain how her habits are damaging your relationship with her. Lie to her and tell her that you found out from someone that the cops are watching the crew that she is hanging with and a bust is coming soon.
If all else fails, get the heck away from her to keep you out of trouble.
People have to ‘want’ the help themselves before they can get better. No one can make anyone do anything; except the law- get it.

How did you quit smoking?

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Was it hypnotism? The Patch? The gum? Cold turkey?

What helped you the most? Please share. I’m desperate to stop.

Well, let me tell you my story and let’s see which method you choose. I would really like to know.

I have tried all methods you can possibly imagine to quit smoking and I can say that none have worked until the last one.

I have tried the all tough, all will power method – this lasted for a few weeks and then BANG, here I am again smoking at least 20 a day as soon as I have the "excuse" I am stressed, too stressed not to smoke.

I have tried spirituality, and maybe this would work now but I was too young at that time and when I stopped attending the spirituality sessions – BANG, I am free from those religious fundamentalist and hence I can smoke again (they were not fundamentalist by the way, I just needed the excuse)

I have tried the health approach, I bought DVDs and read a lot about the harmful cigarettes provoke, even made a list of the pros and cons of smoking, which I kept with me all the time, joined a gym and became a gym freak, started having a very healthy diet… but then life is not perfect and after a year of this…BANG the stress of life was my excuse at the time. 1 WHOLE year without smoking and here I was again

The time before last, I went for NRP, the nicotine replacement therapy, and it actually worked, or I though it worked. It takes a lot of will power too but you still feel miserable for some days. I managed to be off cigarettes for 2 and half years. Quite good, I have always thought, I don’t think I will ever smoke again… yes you guessed it, BANG – because of work, I had to move from the UK an live in Continental Europe. During the relocation I was very stressed and on top of the stress naturally provoked by any move I was burgled. This was what I needed – for 2 and a half years I stayed off cigarettes but I would think about smoking not all the time but too often, especially when I was drinking or socialising – perfect excuse, had only 1 cigarette and before I noticed was hooked again.

Finally, I tried "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking", by Allen Carr. Would never think this would change my mindset but the simplicity of the method actually worked. I don’t feel miserable, it was indeed easy and the whole approach was actually completely different from my previous experiences. I recommend the book to anyone that seriously wants to quit smoking.

Don’t know the future but I can tell you that it is the easy method and it actually works in a completely different way. We don’t have to use will power, as Carr tell us to do, as he believes that this will eventually trick us when we feel down and weaker and will lead to cigarettes again.

Note I have nothing to do with the book, so no profit ;-(

However, to Allen: thanks for your book! Thanks for your dedication to the smoker’s cause that ultimately caused your death for passive smoking in late November 2006. I am doing as you asked me to do in your wonderful book, thanking you and spreading the word about your book.

You are right; cigarettes are the biggest scam ever.

Peace
An admirer
