My mother quit smoking a year ago using Zyban. It a pill she takes once a day. I am hoping it works for me as well. Good luck to you. For substitutes, you can use licorice, candies, carrots, sun flower seeds.

Allen Carr Easy way to quit smoking book.
I would seriously recommend it. Like any addiction you have to deal with the psychology of it and this does just that.

i was a heavy smoker but gave up 19 months ago. I bought a 7day pack of patches (the 24hr ones), i left them on for 48 hours for the first 3 (so thats 6 days) and i still had a couple of cigs first thing in the morning. Next, i cut my 4th patch in half and left that on for 48hrs and had no morning cigs either, then did the same with the other 3 patches. This gave a total usage of 22days of only the 7day box after that i used nothing but the preferbrial will-power and believe it or not bloody apples by the dozen lol i found the royal gala ones were what i was hooked on lol. Now i’m off them 19months and i cant stand the things, would never touch another and i hate the smell of them. Lets hope you read this, i never bother if someone sends me an answer this long lol. GOOD LUCK!

I know this just sounds like willpower (but I’m sure I don’t have any of that!)
I stopped for a day – then wrote down all the things I could do that I couldn’t the day before (smell roses, smell dinner burning, taste burnt dinner etc..) THEN – rather than telling myself I was giving up – I just told myself I didn’t fancy a ciggy – but when I did, I would have one – so no big problem.
When I did get really needful – I used to go out with all the other smokers and have one drag (of one of theirs – obviously).
Gradually it just stopped bugging me!

I hope you have kids because
The only way I stopped in the end was when my son came home from school and asked me to stop smoking because he didn’t want me to die before he grew up
It was like Ice water down my spine, I had tried cutting down patches psuedo cigarettes but in the end this was the incentive I needed as every time I was tempted I remembered the look on his face and I couldn’t cheat
The main thing is that YOU WANT to give up if not your wasting your time, it will take up to 10 years to undo the damage you have done to your lungs and heart so the time is right for you to give it your best shot
I sincerely hope you do give it up even if you don’t have the help of a child, you must have someone who loves you do it for them
its so easy to start and so hard to stop but when you do you have a real feeling of being back in charge of your body
I will be 60 on Wednesday and I stopped 20+ years ago and never looked back Good luck

Me & my husband stopped on the 2 Jan. It is not easy No-one says it is (yes they do) (liers). You have got to want to. With two of us stopping, we have spent a fortune on luxuries. You would not believe the the things we can buy now. Health wise, at least my husband doesn’t wheeze after sex now (he is only 31). When you have been off a while, you realise just how much it stinks. It really does. Go do it & you will never look back.

Patches have done it for me – 6 weeks on the 21mg patch (get them on prescription from your gp surgery) together with the inhilator to help with the habit side. I’m now 7 weeks on and have given up on the patches because I feel like I don’t need them! Use the inhalator at desperate moments.
Stay positive at all times and keep telling yourself you are doing the right thing. Don’t feel lonely, talk about what you are doing to anyone who is interested to listen and you can do it! Good luck

1. My dad dropped dead of cancer.
2. The price of cigarettes is just not worth it.
3. Smoking, although magically delicious, is actually a big hassle in this day and age…the list of places where you CAN’T smoke is much longer than the list of places where you CAN smoke. You can’t even legally smoke OUTDOORS in some places.
4. I got sick of everything smelling like stale cigarette smoke…my hair, my hands, my clothes, the couch, the carpet, the curtains, my car.
5. I started jogging, and now I live on the runner’s high. Every once in a while, I’ll be tempted to light up again, but I know it will hinder my running speed…I think about what a weak runner it will make me…the wheezing and the huffing and puffing…and I know it’s not worth it.

I don’t know If you have It there, but here In the states there’s a new pill called "chantix." It Is strictly to stop smoking and It Is a miracle, magic pill!!!! I have smoked since I was 13, I am 36 now and I need a new kidney and had to stop, I tried everything else In the past that Is available, and this IS IT!!!! You can still smoke a week after you start the pill, then miraculously, you just won’t want to smoke! No cravings, no with-drawls, nothing. It cuts off the nicotine receptors In your brain so It’s like you never smoked and don’t know what your missing. It’s been 3 months now and I can be In a room full of smokers with no problem, ask about It, It’s unbelievable! Good luck!!!

I smoked for 60 years.I regret it now as my breathing is much affected.I tried a few times over the years to give up,using patches but failed each time.I had a particularly bad breathing problem in January, this year and had to spend a couple of days in hospital.I felt really unwell and decided I had to stop smoking. I saw my doctor and told him that I had tried patches before. He suggested a new drug called Champix which acted by inhibiting the part of the brain that wantss you to smoke and also reduoces the withdrawal symptoms. It is a 12 week course of tablets taken twice a day. It worked for me,( OK I had a health scare that really prompted me to stop) but the tablets were much more effective than the patches. After two months I stopped the tablets and have not smoked at all from January and it is now June.I feel a lot better but my lungs are permanently damaged and I can only walk short distances and cannot do anything at all strenuous.I left it much too late to stop before I harmed myself. Please don’t do the same. Give up now before the permanent damage occurs. It is difficult while you still feel well but eventually it will seriously affect everybody who continues to smoke.Nobody is immune from the serious ill effects of smoking. And it will save you an awful lot of money too.

I gave up smoking a year & a half ago after smoking for 18 years on & off. At first I used a nicotine patch for about 3 days then switched to gum for approx. 2 weeks. During this time I ate an orange or tangerine everytime I craved a fag. This is the longest I have stopped smoking. I think the fruit intake has trained by body to associate the craving with fruits. Don’t know if that helps.

My husband gave up last year.
The best way for him was to have a scare , which he did then he was told he had to give up due to his health.
However it wasn’t easy for him so he had the nicotine patches and each month went down to a lower level until he felt he could do without them altogether. I am proud of him giving up cigarettes as I know it wasn’t easy, but he does feel better health wise and of course we are a bit better off finacially
