Help! I want to quit smoking (quitters only please)?
Get this surefire method for ending smoking once and for all easily Ending Smoking now. Thank-You for visiting!
for health reasons (I think I’m going to die), and cuz I’m tired of my smoke smell overpowering my delicious perfume smell.
Cold Turkey will not work
I don’t believe in nicotine replacement therapy
And I’m not into meditation or hypnotism
I want to try the taper method.
Has this worked for anyone?
Any good ideas, websites, etc that can help me?
I tapered!
I set a date, then I started cutting down by 1 ciggie every couple of days. I reminded myself of the quit date every day and by the time I got to it, was down to that one cig after dinner….I was ready. It’s a mindset and getting your body used to less and less nicotine.
I could never do it cold-turkey, I just can’t roll like that. Cigarette Diet, that’s what I called it.

The American Lung Association has a website with links to support and tips for quitting. I’d like to quit myself and have tried a couple of times – without support. I tried the medication Chantix and it did not work for me and I had a bad reaction to it. I also tried some nicotine lozenges and they weren’t good either. My Dad quit several years ago and he started by tapering off – smoking one after meals and when he first woke up, etc. I think eventually he just went cold turkey though. He started having emphysema. Good luck to you.

Hi, I smoked a pack a day for about ten years before quitting. I tried to quit three times before finally being successful. The patch and cold turkey didn’t work for me. I used the taper method. I switched from reds to lights to ultralights, thinking they had less nicotine. Imagine my surprise to find out they had about the same, just less tar. Go figure! Then I consciously slowed down from a pack a day (20 cigs) to about half a pack a day, then to six cigs a day, and finally to three (one for my drive to work, one after lunch, and one on the ride home or just before bed). I also switched girlfriends from one who smoked to one who did not smoke. That helped a lot! Finally, I slowed to a smoke once in a week to almost never. I quit about six years ago. My last cigarette was technically two years ago, but it tasted awful and I got super dizzy from it. I still crave cigarettes everyday, but I have to resist the urge. Addiction sucks. I even had to stop smoking the blessed herb. (sigh) Oh well. At least I don’t have phlemy coughs anymore.

the main "addiction" in smoking is the hand to mouth oral fixation- try always holding a pen in your hand and chewing on it- i know it sounds silly, but nicotine really isnt that addictive, its the hundreds of times a day you do the hand to mouth motion, which becomes an "addiction"

I quit smoking 33 years ago and I can say that it is a good thing to do. I was working in a smoky bowling house at the time and it wasn’t an easy task. What I found was that by not putting a cigarette in my mouth it made it easier, and each time I wanted to put one there, I went into self-talk mode. I would keep talking myself out of the next smoke. Soon the talks became less frequent and soon there were none. Be warned though, it takes a long time, but it’s worth it.
Good luck, Gary

There is no one quit smoking way that is ideal for every smoker, which is why there are many quit smoking products and aids available. Pick a method that is right for you. Here are some common quit smoking ways to consider:
1. cold turkey;
2. nicotine patch, gum or similar;
3. hypnosis;
4. herbal products;
5. acupuncture; and
6. behavior modification.
The first two quit smoking ways above, have the lowest success rate and are not recommended. As stated in your question.
The most successful quit smoking ways available includes: using a hypnosis product, include behavior modification and other quit smoking preplanning tips. By combining multiple methods, you drastically increase your chances of success. Behavior modification includes:
1. identify triggers that cause you to light a cigarette;
2. find alternative methods of dealing with these triggers;
3. avoiding people, places and activities that you associate with smoking; and
4. create new habits and routines, which are not associated with your prior smoking lifestyle.
I have used these methods on me and on many of my relatives. Dude it really helps.
Try it out.
Best of Luck.
